The picnic and garden tour at Kevin Schumann’s was well received. The peonies around the property were in peak bloom. Kevin also showed us the collection he was instrumental in establishing at Cherry Hill Park a few blocks from the church. Thank you Mr. Schumann for hosting the event!
Peony season in the upper Midwest is just about over. With only a few hot days to stress the plants, the flowers season was spectacular. Six to seven weeks of blooms can be experienced when collecting peony types ranging from early woodies to the late Lactiflora. The American Peony Society Convention held in Beaver Dam Wisconsin in earlier June was also a wonderful experience to see many bloom types on the tours and on the show floor.
Check out the new tab “Peony Culture” for tips on growing and what is happening with peonies today.
Minnesota Peony Society will hold its fall root auction and educational meeting the last Sunday in September. The location will be at Bachman’s on Lyndale in Bloomington, MN. More information about the event will be posted in early September.
